Description

An open-air site by the Iknuen guelta located in a southern branch of the Wadi Agmir. Three large surfaces on the rock walls surrounding the guelta contain six panels with petroglyphs, including Tifinagh and Arabic inscriptions and figurative motifs possibly ranging from the early Holocene to recent times. The motifs represent wildlife (giraffes) and domestic animals (cattle and camels). Surface 1 is located on the right above the water level and includes three panels. Panel 1 contains at least four highly eroded giraffes and a few pecked and carved Tifinagh inscriptions. Panel 2 comprises a cow, other unidentifiable zoomorphic figures, and several pecked and carved Tifinagh inscriptions. Panel 3 includes unidentifiable pecked zoomorphic figures and pecked and carved Tifinagh inscriptions. The other surfaces, on the right side, show only pecked Tifinagh and sparse Arabic inscriptions.
