Ti-n-Torha North

Description

A rock shelter located on the left bank of the Wadi Ti-n-Torha in the area that also comprises Site IDs 127 and 129. Barbara Barich excavated the site between 1978 and 1983 and revealed the existence of a set- tlement between the pre-Pastoral and the late phases of the Pastoral Neolithic. The shelter wall shows faded traces of a complex panel with Pastoral paintings that included herds of red and white and red and yellow cattle, and several human images. Numerous negative hand stencils are also visible. The site’s conservation state is critical owing to the natural processes that cause the exfoliation of the pictorial surface.
