Area 1

Description

Area 1 corresponds to the western side of the massif, where an abrupt scarp reaches the higher altimetric peaks. The landscape is here steep with few narrow and deep wadis, lacking in shelters or caves. Tifinagh, also occurring with isolated camels or caravans, or Arabic inscriptions, are the only evidence recorded. They are mainly engraved on slabs and boulders located at high altitudes, in correspondence of narrow mountain trails, locally known as aqbas. These trails allow a west-east transit of the massif.
